Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra

 

 

The great mantra, Mrityunjaya, dedicated to Shiva is contained in the Rig Veda. It is called the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra, the Great Mantra that Conquers Death. This is a mantra that has many names and forms. It is also called Rudra Mantra, Triambakam Mantra (three aspects of life), Mrita Sanjeevini Mantra (due to its life-restoring properties). The Maha-Mrityunjaya Mantra is hailed by the sages as the heart of the Veda. Along with the Gayatri Mantra, it occupies the highest place among the mantras used for meditation. Repeat or meditate at least 27 times, and eventually increase to 108.
